[BOOKHAUL] October 2018

One of my favorite articles to publish (or to read on other blogs) on a book blog is the Haul article. I love seeing what other readers bought when reading their published hauls, but I also like to share my own hauls. It can be a bit confronting as well since I normally don’t pay that much attention anymore as to how many books I buy each month. I’m known for not having any self-control when it comes to buying books haha. Each month I always pre-order several books and I buy regular books as well in between. Ready to see what I’ve added to the shelves this month?

October has been a fantastic book buying-month and I’m really excited to share my haul with you so here we go!

  • the Good luck Charm by Helena Hunting

Ever since reading the Pucked series by Helena, I’ve been in love with her writing sports romance. So when I came across this one, a sports romance stand alone that’s set in the same hockey world as the pucked series is, I couldn’t contain myself. I got a discount coupon from the webshop I regularly buy from so I put it at good use ;). I’ve already read the book this month and I really liked it! I hope there’s more to come!

Is it love, or is she just his good luck charm?

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Helena Hunting absolutely delights with this witty and fun standalone contemporary romance.

Lilah isn’t sure what hurt worse: the day Ethan left her to focus on his hockey career, or the day he came back eight years later. He might think they can pick up just where they left off, but she’s no longer that same girl and never wants to be again.

Ethan Kane wants his glory days back. And that includes having Lilah by his side. With her, he was magic. They were magic. All he has to do is make her see that.

Just when Lilah might finally be ready to let him in, though, she finds out their reunion has nothing to do with her and everything to do with his game. But Ethan’s already lost her once, and even if it costs him his career, he’ll do anything to keep from losing her again.

  • Beauty and the Beast and other classic fairytales B&N leatherbound edition

I’ve had a separate wishlist for B&N Leatherbound editions for years now but never bought any of the books on it yet. When I came across this particular book when I went shopping in Maastricht with my husband earlier this month and was able to hold the book in my hands, I didn’t want to wait any longer and buy the book. But the book was really overpriced in the store, unfortunately (it was €10-13 more expensive than any online store) so I decided to not take it with me. In the end, I ended up buying it anyway but through an online webshop because even though I like to support local stores whenever I go there, the difference in price was too much on this one. But damn, I’m happy to finally have a B&N leatherbound edition in my collection. It’s so stunning and I can’t wait to read the BatB tale as well as the other fairy tales that are inside this book. Do you own any B&N leatherbound editions? Let me know!

The romance of the story Beauty and the Beast – the triumph of love over looks – has fascinated readers for centuries and inspired numerous films and TV series. This anthology not only features the beloved tale, but 100 enchanting stories chosen from The Blue Fain/Book and other collections by Andrew Lang: 50 devoted to beauties and another 50 from the perspective of the beast.

  • Kingdom of Ash by Sarah J. Maas
    US Hardcover & UK paperback

I’ve been collecting both US hardcovers and UK paperbacks of this series for years now so of course I couldn’t not pre-order both editions as well this time around. I wish I’d had more money to spare so I could’ve bought some special editions as well but one cannot have all, right? haha. Especially seeing how I’ll be receiving both Throne of Glass collector’s editions in November.

When I first saw the digital cover designs I thought the US hardcover didn’t look nearly as stunning as the UK paperback was. But now that I’ve seen the US hardcover in print, I have to get back on what I said earlier haha. Because in the printed edition, the hardcover is so incredibly stunning and I couldn’t tell you which one I’d prefer now to be honest because the UK paperback is so beautiful as well! Which one do you prefer regarding the looks of the cover?

  • Consumed by J.R. Ward (Firefighters #1)

I haven’t read much by this author yet, only the first book in her famous paranormal romance series. But when I came across this book, a romantic suspense, and read the synopsis, I was sold. I can’t wait to read this book, hopefully very soon!

Anne Ashburn is a woman consumed…

By her bitter family legacy, by her scorched career as a firefighter, by her obsession with department bad-boy Danny McGuire, and by a new case that pits her against a fiery killer.

Strong-willed Anne was fearless and loved the thrill of fighting fires, pushing herself to be the best. But when one risky decision at a warehouse fire changes her life forever, Anne must reinvent not only her job, but her whole self.

Shattered and demoralized, Anne finds her new career as an arson investigator a pale substitute for the adrenaline-fueled life she left behind. She doesn’t believe she will ever feel that same all-consuming passion for her job again–until she encounters a string of suspicious fires setting her beloved city ablaze.

Danny McGuire is a premiere fireman, best in the county, but in the midst of a personal meltdown. Danny is taking risks like never before and seems to have a death wish until he teams up with Anne to find the fire starter. But Danny may be more than a distraction, and as Anne narrows in on her target, the arsonist begins to target her.

From the creator of the bestselling Black Dagger Brotherhood, get ready for a new band of brothers. And a firestorm.

  • Pucked over by Helena Hunting (Pucked #3)

I’ve first read this series on my kindle last year and I loved the books so much that I decided I wanted to add them to my collection as well so I could do rereads with printed copies. Book 1 and 2 were already in possession so buying book 3 was the next logical step. There’ll be a new release in the series, book 6, next month which I pre-ordered and I’m so excited to read a new pucked book! If you like Sports romance, especially when it’s involving Hockey, you should definitely add this series to your to-read list!

Lily LeBlanc isn’t versed in the art of casual sex, but after seven years in an on-again, off-again relationship, she’s definitely willing to give it a shot. And who better to try it with than her best friend’s boyfriend’s best friend? What could possibly go wrong? Nothing at all.

NHL player, Randy Ballistic, lives up to his last name on the ice and in the bedroom. His best friend and teammate has recently given up the puck bunnies and traded them in for a real girlfriend. And she just happens to have a seriously feisty, extra-hot best friend on the rebound. Randy’s more than happy to be Lily’s spring board back into the dating scene.

Casual sex is only casual until those pesky things called emotions get involved. Once that happens, someone’s bound to gets pucked over.

  • Grim Lovelies by Megan Shepherd

This YA fantasy first caught my eyes because of the stunning cover, but the synopsis sounds like this book is my kind of read and so I couldn’t resist buying it. Aside from being happy that I have this stunning hardcover edition on my shelves, I’m so excited to read this story!

Seventeen-year-old Anouk envies the human world, where people known as Pretties lavish themselves in fast cars, high fashion, and have the freedom to fall in love. But Anouk can never have those things, because she is not really human. Enchanted from animal to human girl and forbidden to venture beyond her familiar Parisian prison, Anouk is a Beastie: destined for a life surrounded by dust bunnies and cinders serving Mada Vittora, the evil witch who spelled her into existence. That is, until one day she finds her mistress murdered in a pool of blood—and Anouk is accused of the crime.

Now, the world she always dreamed of is rife with danger. Pursued through Paris by the underground magical society known as the Haute, Anouk and her fellow Beasties only have three days to find the real killer before the spell keeping them human fades away. If they fail, they will lose the only lives they’ve ever known…but if they succeed, they could be more powerful than anyone ever bargained for.

From New York Times bestselling author Megan Shepherd, Grim Lovelies is an epic and glittering YA fantasy. Prepare to be spellbound by the world of Grim Lovelies, where secrets have been long buried, friends can become enemies, and everything—especially humanity—comes at a price.

  • – the Sleeping King by Cindy Dees

I came across this one while prowling the Amazon.de website a while ago so I put it on my wishlist. Since I placed an order at Amazon earlier this month I decided to add this one to my basket since it was really nicely priced at the time (€7 for an HC edition). The synopsis doesn’t say much but it says enough to make me extremely excited to read it!

The Sleeping King is the start of a new fantasy series by New York Times and USA Today bestselling author, Cindy Dees.

The Sleeping King is the first in an epic fantasy series, featuring the best of the genre: near immortal imperial overlords, a prophecy of a sleeping elven king who’s said to be the savior of the races . . . and two young people who are set on a path to save the day.

  • Muse of Nightmares by Laini Taylor
UK Hardcover edition with red sprayed edges

Even though I still haven’t finished Strange the Dreamer – shame on me for calling myself a Laini Taylor fan – I just had to pre-order Muse of Nightmares because I really wanted the 1st UK hardcover edition that has the red sprayed edges since I also own the StD with the blue sprayed edges. I also own the US hardcover of StD so when I get around to start Muse of Nightmare, someday, I definitely plan on buying the US hardcover edition of MoN as well. I’m so excited to read these books but still haven’t gotten in the right mindset to do so, you know? Hopefully soon!

  • Lord of the Fading Lands by C.L. Wilson

I’ve had this one on my wishlist for quite a while now and when Faecrate was raving about it on Instagram recently I decided to finally buy it. I already started reading the book in October but then Kingdom of Ash was released so I put Lord of the Fading Lands aside. I hope to finish it soon 🙂

Once he drove back the darkness.
Once he loved with such passion his name was legend.

Once, driven wild with grief over the murder of his beloved, the majestic Fey King Rain Tairen Soul had laid waste to the world before vanishing into the Fading Lands. Now, a thousand years later, a new threat draws him back into the world—and a new love reawakens the heart he thought long dead.

Ellysetta, a woodcarver’s daughter, calls to Rain in a way no other ever had. Mysterious and magical, her soul beckons him with a compelling, seductive song—and no matter the cost, the wildness in his blood will not be denied.

As an ancient, familiar evil regains its strength, causing centuries-old alliances to crumble and threatening doom for Rain and his people… he must claim his truemate to embrace the destiny woven for them both in the mists of time.

  • a Sorrow fierce and falling by Jessica Cluess (Kingdom on Fire #3)

This is the final installment in the Kingdom on Fire trilogy. A trilogy that I came to love so so much when I read book 1 and 2. It reminds me a bit of the infernal devices since its set in London – which I love so much – and the set of characters remind me so much as well of the beloved characters from the TID books. Instead of demon hunters, we follow some sort of sorcerers who fight monsters. It’s so awesome! The monsters in these books are so well written. The story is dark, brutal and epic! I really hope I’m going to love this final installment.

Synopsis of book 1, a Shadow bright and burning:
I am Henrietta Howel. The first female sorcerer. The prophesied one. Or am I?

Henrietta Howel can burst into flames. When she is brought to London to train with Her Majesty’s sorcerers, she meets her fellow sorcerer trainees, young men eager to test her powers and her heart. One will challenge her. One will fight for her. One will betray her. As Henrietta discovers the secrets hiding behind the glamour of sorcerer life, she begins to doubt that she’s the true prophesied one. With battle looming, how much will she risk to save the city–and the one she loves?

  • Caged Warrior by Lindsey Piper (Dragon Kings #1)

The first book in a paranormal romance series by a new to me author. I’m really excited to see what I’ll think of it since I love discovering a new paranormal romance series. The synopsis sounds intriguing. I haven’t come across the series that much so if you’ve read it, I love to hear what you think of the series!

The first installment in this fierce and sensual new paranormal romance series features demonic gladiators, ruthless mafia villains, and a proud race on the brink of extinction.

Ten years ago, Audrey MacLaren chose to marry her human lover, making her an exile from the Dragon Kings, an ancient race of demons once worshiped as earthly gods. Audrey and her husband managed to conceive, and their son is the first natural-born Dragon King in a generation—which makes him irresistible to the sadistic scientist whose mafia-funded technology allows demon procreation. In the year since her husband was murdered, Audrey and her little boy have endured hideous experiments.

Shackled with a collar and bound for life, Leto Garnis is a Cage warrior. Only through combat can Dragon Kings earn the privilege of conceiving children. Leto uses his superhuman speed and reflexes to secure the right for his two sisters to start families. After torture reveals Audrey’s astonishing pyrokenesis, she is sent to fight in the Cages. If she survives a year, she will be reunited with her son. Leto is charged with her training. Initially, he has no sympathy for her plight. But if natural conception is possible, what has he been fighting for? As enemies, sparring partners, lovers, and eventual allies, Leto and Audrey learn that in a violent underground world, love is the only prize worth winning.

  • Shadow and Ice by Gena Showalter (Gods of War #1)

Some of you might know already how much of a fan I am of Gena’s writing. Whether it’s her paranormal romance books (that’s how I got to know Gena’s work), her YA books or the contemporary romance books she writes; I LOVE IT ALL SO MUCH. But her paranormal romance books are my most favorite by her, to be honest. So when she announced this first book in a new series, I was sooo excited! I really can’t wait to dive into this one, hopefully very soon!

Gena Showalter, the New York Times bestselling author who brought you the Lords of the Underworld, introduces a scorching new paranormal romance series… Gods of War.

Knox of Iviland has spent his life competing in the All Wars, where vicious warriors with supernatural powers fight to the death to claim new realms. One winner takes everything—and all losers die. Enslaved as a child for his ability to control shadows, the most ruthless champion in history will stop at nothing to kill his king. But first he must win the battle for Earth. When a fearsome weapon imprisons every combatant in ice, centuries pass without progress…until she walks in.

Vale London craves a fun arctic getaway with her foster sister before settling down to open a bakery. Street-tough but vulnerable, she is unprepared to find ancient gods escaping a frozen cave—merciless beings who target her when she inadvertently enters their war.

Though Vale is now his enemy, Knox is consumed with lust and a fierce need to protect her. But only one combatant can prove victorious, and he will have to choose: live for freedom, or die for love.

Untitled 3.jpg

I came across these books thanks to my friend Kaylee. This author will attend the RARE event in London next year and we’ve been looking to discover some new-to-us authors who are attending and Teagan was one of them. Kaylee put this book and the other one on her birthday wishlist so when I bought her this book, I added book 1 and 2 to the order for myself as well hihi. I already read both books and looooved them! Can’t wait to read the third book, hopefully soon.

A wrong number is supposed to be just that—a wrong number.

Delete. Done.

Do not continue to text. Do not flirt.

A wrong number shouldn’t be the first person on your mind in the morning, or the last at night…and you’re definitely not supposed to talk them into buying a baby goat.

Because that would be weird.

When Zach Hastings and I get into a wrong-number mix-up, we don’t follow the rules. We keep texting and flirting, because he’s wicked funny and perfectly nerdy and a wonderful distraction.

I’m not looking for love, and Zach definitely had the wrong number.

But maybe…

Maybe he’s the right guy.

  • the Dutch edition of Evergreen Springs by RaeAnne Thayne (Haven Point #3)

I love Harlequin romances and often when I go grocery shopping myself – I prefer ordering online tho – I just can’t contain myself when I come across the harlequin romance section in the supermarket. So the last time I was there to do some extended grocery shopping, I took this one home with me. It looks like a fun Christmas read, something perfect to read in between! Hopefully, I’ll come across the Dutch editions of book 1 and 2 in the series too, so I can add those to the collection as well.

Celebrate the magic of Christmas in Haven Point with New York Times bestselling author RaeAnne Thayne, where hope, home and happily-ever-after are as close as your holiday stocking…

Christmas is the last thing on Cole Barrett’s mind this year. He’s barely hanging on trying to care for his two grieving children since his ex-wife died in a tragic accident. For the reclusive Cole, this is no time for gift-giving and celebration—and certainly not for a sunny-natured optimist to blow into his screwed-up life.

Physician Devin Shaw has long researched the curative powers of Lake Haven’s mineral waters. Unfortunately, the hot springs are on Barrett property, forcing Devin to strike a bargain with the ranch’s attractively gruff owner: she’ll give Cole’s children a magical Christmas, and Cole will allow her patients access to the springs. But can she work her holiday magic to heal the Barrett family’s battered hearts—and her own?

      1. Bookswaps are always so much fun to open! I’ll be receiving Archangel’s Prophecy today by Nalini Singh and yesterday I received the Throne of Glass collector’s editions but I’ll add these three books to my November haul since I already published my October haul haha.

    1. WOW, you had a really nice haul haha!!! My birthday was in September so my September haul was really insane as well. Birthdays are always so much fun when you’re a reader, lol.

Crash into You by Katie McGarry is probably my favorite of the Pushing the Limits books. Hope you’re going to love it as well! And a boxset of the Remnant chronicles: AHHHH!! I want to buy it as wel since there are some cover changes hihi. I have the hardcovers, which are stunning AND SIGNED so they’re really precious to me but the new paperback box set is one that I really need to buy at some point as well because of the cover changes ❤

Happy reading with all of your new books!

    1. IKR hahaha. I can’t keep up with what I buy and what I read. And that’s saying something about my book buying behavior since I’ve read 196 books so far this year, LOL. But I re-read a lot as well so that gets in the way of reading new reads sometimes haha.

    1. It’s indeed incredibly stunning! I’ve held some other B&N leather-bound editions in my hands when I was at Dominicanen Maastricht and they are all so incredibly stunning as well. All of them with different colorings when it comes to the hardcover but the sprayed edges are different colors as well so that’s really awesome!
