[RELEASE DAY BLITZ + REVIEW] the Rival by Megan Green (#3 Washington Rampage)

When I read the acknowledgment the author wrote for this book, saying this book almost didn’t exist, it makes me feel even more thankful that the author decided to Do finish writing it. Carter and Avery’s story was one I was really looking forward to reading ever since I met Carter in the prior written books. I’m really thankful to have received an e-arc of this book and to read and review it in advance.

I love her. But she loves him.

I’d known Avery Grant was the one for me from the moment she bossed me around on the playground. After over a decade of friendship, I’m still biding my time, waiting for the moment she realizes everything she’s ever wanted is standing right in front of her.

Then one white envelope sends my world spiraling.
A wedding invitation, announcing Avery’s engagement to the one man who could never deserve her: Miles Johnson.

Miles is the worst kind of human — and my biggest rival. Everything I can do, he thinks he can do better, including being the best rookie pitcher the MLB has seen in decades. But if he makes her happy, who am I to interfere?

But when Avery shows up on my doorstep, devastated and heartbroken by Miles’s betrayal, I can’t help but open my doors for her.

The timing is all wrong, but I won’t miss my shot.
This time, I refuse to strike out

Aaaaaand a new book boyfriend came to town, whoop whoop!

Carter is kind of the perfect book boyfriend and I really liked the fact that he was still a virgin; it made his love for Avery come across even more sincere and well-developed. His love for Avery just knows no bounds and I think the author did such an amazing job on portraying this character and his feelings.

Avery was such a sweetheart and she feels like a really reliable and relatable character. She has such a big heart and she’s so lovable in general. I could easily connect with her and I loved racing towards that HEA alongside her. So reading from both Carter and her pov was a great way to finish this story.

I’ve loved the prior written books in the series, the Off-Season and the Clean-Up because Brandon and Ian were such amazing characters as well as Liv and Lexi. So seeing them returning as minor characters was such a delight. Especially the epilogue of this book was such a great addition to the entire series and a great treat for fans of these characters.

It has humor,
it has heart,
it has all the feels!

This best friends-to-lovers romance is such a sweet, heart fulfilling and swoon-worthy romance. This is one of those books you just can’t put down, once started. I loved every chapter and was sad to see it end. It’s a hard thing to do I think; to write a soulmate love-story, since it isn’t always that believable. But Megan Green wrote one that made me believe alright! She made me believe with my heart and soul. Carter and Avery are really perfect together! They complement each other’s characters so well, and those are the best-written romances.

The Washington Rampage boys stole my heart and I feel very privileged to have read and reviewed all of the books in this series. I can’t wait to read more by this author. If you like a fun, beautifully written and fast-paced romance read, this is definitely a book you need to add to your tbr – alongside book 1 and 2 of course hehe. I saw that Megan has also written a military romance series so I can’t wait to see what that’s all about.
