[BOOK REVIEW] Blood Laws by Lexi C. Foss (Immortal Curse #1)

I am so happy that I finally got around to finish reading my review copy of Blood Laws and I’m really excited to share my review with you guys! Blood Laws is the first book in a paranormal romance series you need to add to your wishlist ASAP!

The lines between charade and reality blur as dark romance brews between two unlikely soulmates…

Stas isn’t your average human. She can bend others to her will, a psychic talent she’s kept hidden since the brutal murder of her parents.

Issac isn’t human at all. He’s an immortal masquerading as one of New York City’s hottest bachelors while secretly seeking revenge against a former ally.

A fateful meeting ends in a seductive proposition: He’ll teach her more about her gifts if she agrees to play girlfriend to his billionaire persona. As their lives intertwine, secrets are exposed and passion ignites. It’s a bond built to last a lifetime if they’re willing to risk everything to protect it.

World building

I love the concept of it all; The world-building is really interesting and can’t wait to read more about it in the next books. There was enough explanation present of how the world was build without it being overwhelming. The paranormal elements are interesting and fit perfectly within this story. I think the author did a great job on making this unique and original. The Ichorians, Hybraian, Seraphim, and Fledglings are awesome to read about and their way of living in between the humans.

“Who told you to come here?”
“Why do you care” her voice was a little higher
than she intended. He evoked a response from her unlike any other.
Not that her limited experience was much of a comparison.
“Because whoever sent you here was trying to get you killed.”

We read the story from two pov’s; Stas and Issac. Stas is our female lead character. She always knew she had powers and that the paranormal world was a real thing, but she didn’t know where her powers came from and what it all means so she tried to stay clear of it all after seeing her parents being brutally murdered when she was young. She’s about to be thrown right into the middle of this paranormal world, that’s balancing on the edge of an impending war. She starts out being used as a ‘pawn’ by Issac but soon she finds herself falling for this man whom she technically shouldn’t be with. Stas is headstrong, witty and I she’s a character I could bond easily with.

And Issac is such an intriguing character and I loved reading from his POV a lot, since he’s already familiar with the paranormal world and such, reading his view on things simultaneously provides you with more information on the workings of this world which was really well written I think. He’s the perfect balance of alpha-male but not too dominant you know? He respects Stas and gives her the freedom to make her own decisions, so that made me love him even more.

I also loved meeting other characters aside from Stas and Issac. Quite some minor characters present got my attention and I always love it when an author not only focuses on the main characters but on the minor characters as well, especially if they’ll be getting books of their own later on in the series. So overall, there’s a really really great character set present in this book!!

“I’m going to give you what you need,”
he whispered, his lips hot against hers.
“What we both need.”

This read was fast-paced, not with lots of action in it btw – if you count out the sex hahaha. HOT SEX at that though, DAMN 😉 – but I think it was perfect the way it was; in balance with the rest of the elements like the romance and character development and such. It doesn’t end on a cliffhanger persé, but it definitely left me aching and desperately wanting to go get the second book right away, when I finished it. I’m so excited to see how everything is going to continue in the second book because it feels like book 1 is only the beginning of so many more awesome things to come our way. It’s like we’ve only scratched the surface so far and I’m excited to see what’s hidden underneath it as well.

It was exciting, it was sexy and it was definitely addictive. I loved the writing and I can’t wait to continue with this series by reading Forbidden Bonds. There are already 9 books planned for this series so that’s really awesome since there are a lot of minor characters present in this first book whom I like to read more of and preferably their own books so YAY!

Back on track: A really interesting and awesome read that I’d definitely recommend to each and every one of you! The characters are interesting, loveable and exciting to read about. The romance is well developed and sexy AF. The story-line progresses at a nice pace and towards the end, it has a great build-up that leaves you craving more. So I think it’s a really great first book in a series.

I think this series may already be on its way to make it to my favorite paranormal romance series list if the author continues writing books this awesome. It’s definitely one of my favorite first book in a paranormal romance series, that’s for sure!!

Thank you so much, Lexi, for sending me an e-arc back in the day. This earc was received in exchange for me leaving an honest review.
