I came across this challenge over at the Bookdutchesses blog and thought it would be a fun one to do myself, so here we go.
In this tag it’s all about seeing if you have specific books on your shelves like a book with deckled edges, a Mass Market paperback, and many more will be shown. I love tags like these in which I really need to go looking at my shelves and find specific kind of books to talk about.
⌊ Do you have a book with deckled edges?
Ever since coming across books that had deckled edges I’ve been in love with this ‘phenomenon’. I really like the looks of deckled edges and I love it so much that when I receive a book I bought and it turns out that it has these deckled edges – Love those surprises. I think they give something ‘extra’ to the looks of a book, in a positive extent, and I just love it! Some of the books I have on my shelves that have these edges are
- Norse mythology by Neil Gaiman
- Furyborn by Claire LeGrand
- the Queen’s Rising by Rebecca Ross
- the Glass Spare by Lauren DeStefano
- the Wrath and the Dawn by Renee Adieh
- The Winner’s Curse & Crime by Marie Rutkoski
⌊ Do you have a book with 3 or more people on the cover?
At first when I came across this question I was thinking ‘OMG, I’m never going to find a cover’ but when I actually started to go in search of one this series sprang to mind immediately. Every cover has more than 3 persons on the cover, so it was a perfect pick. I love this series so much. It’s one of my all-time favorite YA contemporary series and I can’t wait to read the next book.
⌊ Do you have a book based on another fictional story?
There are too many to mention here haha. I love re-tellings and I have quite a collection so far – not all of them are in this pic. I love re-tellings inspired by Disney fairy tales but other fairy tales as well as Classic re-tellings. Just love them haha!
⌊ Do you have a book with a title 10 letters long?
When I saw this question in Isa’s article and which book she chose – one I don’t own – I was like ‘OK, I’m screwed. It’s going to take me forever to find a book’. Somehow, I ended up finding Wintersong like within 30 seconds or something? YAY me haha!
⌊ Do you have a book with a title that starts and ends with the same letter?
This is yet again a case in which I thought I’d had to go looking and never find anything, but finding the right one within 30 seconds or so, lol. Seven Black Diamonds is the first book in a duology that has some Fae/Fantasy/Magic elements and I loved reading this book so so much. Have had its sequel on my shelves every since its release, but haven’t gotten around to read it yet. So… hopefully soon! Where I think that Holly Black is kind of overrated, I think Melissa Marr is a really underrated author when it comes to books that are about fae/faerie stuff within the YA genre.
⌊ Do you have a Mass Market paperback book?
I own quite a few of them actually. I love reading contemporary romance and paranormal romance and a lot of books in these genres are published as Mass Market paperbacks. Some of my Laura Kaye collections exists of being Mass Market Paperbacks for example.
⌊ Do you have a book written by an author using a pen name?
I have several actually. But probably more than I know of haha. I’m not always up to date by knowing these things. But two quite famous authors I have on my shelves use pen names, like for example: Jennifer L. Armentrout writes her New adult books under a pen name: J. Lynn.
And then there’s also the well-known Cassandra Clare, which is basically a pen name as well since her real name is Judith Rumelt. Her real name is completely different and to me it’s often so strange to think about this, because I always think Cassandra Clare is her name but she really has another name that she uses outside the bookworld, lol. I love the name ‘Cassandra Clare’ though. That name has come to mean so much to me throughout the years.
⌊ Do you have a book with a character’s name in the title?
These were the first books that came to mind. Technically these ‘names’ are nicknames but their birth-given names aren’t really used a lot in the books. When readers talk about the characters in these books, they all will use the ‘nicknames’ that you see printed as book Titles; Wilder, Nova and Rebel.
⌊ Do you have a book with 2 maps in it?
As you can see in the pic above I do, and it’s one of my most stunning books in the collection as well: Dance of Thieves by Mary e. Pearson. There’s a world map inside the book at the beginning of it and at the end of the book there’s a City map to be found as well. The artwork and details on these maps are so frigging stunning too! Love coming across maps in books, especially when they’re as beautiful as these ones are!
⌊ Do you have a book that was turned into a TV show?
At first, I wanted to take a pick of the Shadowhunter books but then; I talk about Clare’s books so much already and there are already other books by her that I used for other questions in this tag. So I decided to pick the first three books of James S.A. Corey’s Sci-Fi series that was made into a TV show, called the Expanse, in 2015.
⌊ Do you have a book written by someone who is originally famous for something else? (celebrity/athlete/politician/tv personality)
Quite a few actually and hopefully many more in the future since I love reading biographies and such. The ones that I wanted to show to you are What happened by Hillary Clinton & Becoming by Michelle Obama. Haven’t read either yet but I am really looking forward to reading both of them, hopefully soon.
⌊ Do you have a book with a clock on the cover?
I don’t have any covers that focus on a clock but I do have those that have a clock in the background like my copy of Clockwork Angel in which you see the Big Ben on the left.
⌊ Do you have a poetry book?
No, I haven’t actually. I have a couple of them on my wishlist but I just never get around to buying them in the end because other books get prioritized over them, lol.
⌊ Do you have a book with an award stamp on it?
This one! And I can’t say I’m happy about that because it’s not a sticker. It’s processed into the cover and I think it’s hideous how it looks. I mean, if they are death set on putting it up there, choose a spot that’s not so IN YOUR FACE you know? And I understand they want to help promote the book better this way, but I think it destroys the awesome cover… sigh.
⌊ Do you have a book written by an author that has the same initials as you?
Unfortunately, I couldn’t find one so here’s another question I couldn’t ‘accomplish’. I love this tag so much but I’m bummed out that I couldn’t complete 2 of the questions haha.
⌊ Do you have a book of short stories?
Several actually, even though I don’t often read and like them, lol. I have ones that are written by mostly the same author and are an addition to an already existing series, and then I also have some that have short stories by many different authors inside, all set in different worlds/places like the book that you can see in the pic above: Robots Vs. Faeries.
⌊ Do you have a book that is between 500-510 pages?
Damn, that’s quite a specific number hahaha. Thanks to Isabelle’s tip of using Goodreads to help narrow down my search – since I was planning on actually looking through the books on the shelves, which I wasn’t really excited about, lol – I found that the Bane Chronicles has 507 pages! Mission accomplished, yay!
⌊ Do you have a book that was turned into a movie?
At first, I was thinking about taking a pic of the Kissing Booth, To all the boys I’ve loved before or City of Bones for example. And then I was like ‘ooo wait a minute! You bought that biography book in London which is perfect to showcase!’ So yeah, here it is haha. First Man; the life of Neil A. Armstrong!
⌊ Do you have a graphic novel?
I’ve been wanting to buy more graphic novels for a while now, but I just never seem to get around to do so. I own some graphic novels of favorite books of mine like Vampire Academy and The Mortal Instruments, but I also really like to discover and read graphic novels that aren’t originally made from books you know? That said, I’m really happy with my Graphic novels of these two favorite series of mine. I wish they’d completed the VA series one 😦 I’d love it if I’d be able to get book 4-6 but those aren’t going to be made unfortunately. I really hope they’ll finish the mortal instruments one!
⌊ Do you have a book written by 2 or more authors?
O, there are quite a few that I could’ve chosen here like say the Illuminae Files by Jay Kristoff and Amie Kaufman or the Starbound trilogy by Amie Kaufman & Meagan Spooner. I chose the Lady Janies books by Jodi Meadows, Cynthia Hand and Brodi Ashton instead. They’re YA re-tellings of classics that had a ‘Jane’ character present. Book 1 is a re-telling of Lady Jane Grey, who sat on the throne of England for 8 days and was brutally murdered. They’ve added fantasy/magic elements into the re-telling and I can’t tell you enough about how amazing that book was! One of my favorite reads of the year, for sure! And My Plain Jane is a re-telling of Jane Eyre and it has some paranormal elements added to it, so cool! Can’t wait for book 3 to be published!
Wow, this was a really fun but sometimes difficult tag to do haha! But it’s really one of the best ones I’ve come across to this date so instead of tagging specific people, I’d just recommend to each and every one of you who likes writing tag-articles to do this one! If you do so, please tag me and let me know so I can come read it! I would love to see this tag end up on more blogs 🙂 Thanks for reading
With love, as always,
