In order to clean out my Want To Read list on Goodreads, I decided to give this a try by writing the Down the TBR Hole article. This article was originally created by Lost in a Story and a lot of other bloggers are publishing it as well so you might’ve already come across it here and there. I always like reading those Down the TBR Hole articles and hopefully you’ll like to read it over here on my blog as well.

It’s really fun to see which books I’ve added to my to-read list so long ago and to find out how I feel about them now, all those years later. Since I’ve only been using Goodreads actively since 2014, there aren’t any books I’ve added prior to 2014 obviously. In the first Down the TBR Hole edition, I showed the first 6 books I’ve added to my Want to Read list on Goodreads back in 2014. Today I’m at #4 of Down the TBR. In the prior 3 editions I managed to get rid of 8 books in total. Today I have 6 new books to show you. Let’s see which ones I’m going to delete, if any haha. Here we go!

7823600.jpgPersonal Demons by Lisa Desrochers (Personal Demons #1)
Genre: YA, paranormal, Angels, Demons
Added to GR in: April 2015

Frannie Cavanaugh is a good Catholic girl with a bit of a wicked streak. She has spent years keeping everyone at a distance—even her closest friends—and it seems as if her senior year is going to be more of the same . . . until Luc Cain enrolls in her class. No one knows where he came from, but Frannie can’t seem to stay away from him.

What she doesn’t know is that Luc is on a mission. He’s been sent from Hell itself to claim Frannie’s soul. It should be easy—all he has to do is get her to sin, and Luc is as tempting as they come. Frannie doesn’t stand a chance. But he has to work fast, because if the infernals are after her, the celestials can’t be far behind. And sure enough, it’s not long before the angel Gabriel shows up, willing to do anything to keep Luc from getting what he came for. It isn’t long before they find themselves fighting for more than just Frannie’s soul.

But if Luc fails, there will be Hell to pay . . . for all of them.

Even though there are some elements here that I’m very interested in reading about, it sounds like it’s going to be a very typical ya read with a love triangle in it. I’m not sure I want to read this anymore so when in doubt, I decided to get rid of the book since I probably won’t ever get around to really read it then.

Verdict ⇒ GO

10324808Dragon’s Oath by P.C. Cast (House of Night Novellas #1)
Genre: YA, paranormal, vampires
Added to GR in: April 2015

In early 19th century England, long before he’s a professor at the Tulsa House of Night, Bryan Lankford is a troublesome yet talented human teen who thinks he can get away with anything… until his father, a wealthy nobleman, has finally had enough, and banishes him to America. When Bryan is Marked on the docks and given the choice between the London House of Night and the dragon-prowed ship to America, he chooses the Dragon – and a brand new fate.

Becoming a Fledgling may be exciting, but it opens a door to a dangerous world…In 1830’s St. Louis, the Gateway to the West, Dragon Lankford becomes a Sword Master, and soon realizes there are both frightening challenges and beautiful perks. Like Anastasia, the captivating young Professor of Spells and Rituals at the Tower Grove House of Night, who really should have nothing to do with a fledgling…

But when a dark power threatens, Dragon is caught in its focus. Though his uncanny fighting skills make him a powerful fledgling, is he strong enough to ward off evil, while protecting Anastasia as well? Will his choices save her—or destroy them all?

I’m not even sure yet if I still want to start the House of Night series in general, so this novella collection is one that definitely won’t stay on my Want to Read list then anymore. I may even decide to remove the first book in the series from the list as well, but we’ll see. This novella collection is going though since I’m not really planning on reading it.

8700935Heavenly by Jennifer Laurens (Heavenly #1)
Genre: YA, paranormal, angels
Added to GR in: April 2015

I met someone who changed everything. Matthias. My autistic sister’s guardian angel. Honest. Inspiring. Funny. Hot. And immortal. That was the problem. What could I do? I did what any other girl would do-I fell in love with him.

Zoe’s sister darts in front of cars. Her brother’s a pothead. Her parents are so overwhelmed; they don’t see Zoe lost in her broken life. Zoe escapes the only way she knows how: partying. Matthias, a guardian sent from Heaven, watches over Zoe’s autistic sister. After Zoe is convinced he’s legit, angel and lost girl come together in a love that changes destiny. But Heaven on Earth can’t last forever.

I have to be honest here and say that I completely forgot about this book until I came across it for this article. When reading the synopsis though it still has me really excited to read this book. It may be a typical YA paranormal romance book, but we’ll see… For now, I’ll keep it, with the intention of reading it someday haha.

Genre: YA, SciFi, Dystopia
Added to GR in: April 2015

In a near future, society is segregated according to whether people are genetically disposed to mental illness. 17-year-old Ana has been living the privileged life of a Pure due to an error in her DNA test. When the authorities find out, she faces banishment from her safe Community, a fate only thwarted by the fact that she has already been promised to Pure-boy Jasper Taurell.

Jasper is from a rich and influential family and despite Ana’s condition, wants to be with her. The authorities grant Ana a tentative reprieve. If she is joined to Jasper before her 18th birthday, she may stay in the Community until her illness manifests. But if Jasper changes his mind, she will be cast out among the Crazies. As Ana’s joining ceremony and her birthday loom closer, she dares to hope she will be saved from the horror of the City and live a ‘normal’ life. But then Jasper disappears.

Led to believe Jasper has been taken by a strange sect the authorities will not interfere with, Ana sneaks out of her well-guarded Community to find him herself. Her search takes her through the underbelly of society, and as she delves deeper into the mystery of Jasper’s abduction she uncovers some devastating truths that destroy everything she has grown up to believe.

This still sounds like a really intriguing read. The world and concept of the story-line looks really interesting and it has some romance in it as well I believe so I decided to keep it for now because it looks like a book I’d definitely buy and read someday.

32261Tess of the D’Urbervilles by Thomas Hardy

Added to GR in: April 2015

A very different man, Angel Clare, seems to offer her love and salvation, but Tess must choose whether to reveal her past or remain silent in the hope of a peaceful future.

I’ve been wanting to read this book for years now but still haven’t gotten around to buy and read it yet. I still really much want to so I’m definitely keeping this one on my Want to Read list! I wish I’d get around to reading classics more often!

6068551Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater (the Wolves of Mercy Falls #1)
Genre: Ya, paranormal, werewolves
Added to GR in: April 2015

For years, Grace has watched the wolves in the woods behind her house. One yellow-eyed wolf—her wolf—is a chilling presence she can’t seem to live without.

Meanwhile, Sam has lived two lives: In winter, the frozen woods, the protection of the pack, and the silent company of a fearless girl. In summer, a few precious months of being human… until the cold makes him shift back again.

Now, Grace meets a yellow-eyed boy whose familiarity takes her breath away. It’s her wolf. It has to be. But as winter nears, Sam must fight to stay human—or risk losing himself, and Grace, forever.

I’ve got the complete trilogy on my shelves for years now but haven’t gotten around to read it yet. It still looks like this will be an enjoyable read. I really want to read some werewolves books in 2019, so this trilogy is definitely a good one to stick with I believe. Have you read it yet? Love to hear what you thought of it!

Out of these 6 books, 2 will GO and 4 will stay. So that’s maybe not as much books I hoped I’d get rid off this time around but still… My Want to Read list is reaaaaaly slowly starting to crumple, lol. At the moment there are still 1556 books on my Want to Read list on Goodreads – YIKES! It’s going to take me forever to go through that list, lol.

Have you read any of the books on my list? If so, should I change anything about the choices I made, you think? Maybe I removed one you think I should put back on my tbr? Love to hear from you. Thanks for reading and have a nice day!

With Love,
Melissa ♥

  1. This is such a good idea. I feel like I’m always adding to my want to read section on Goodreads and it’s at the point where there’s like a million books on there and it’s exhausting/overwhelming so i definitely need to do that. That being said, I don’t blame you for not knowing if you even want to read House of Night. Even if you do, I’ll be real: the novellas weren’t great. The books aren’t my cup of tea anymore, either, but they are a little more engaging than the novellas. So, you are definitely not missing out!
